Daniel Dion Dies: Celine Dion’s Beloved Brother Loses Battle With Cancer

Sadly, Celine Dion has lost her brother, Daniel Dion, to a very similar throat cancer to the one her husband, Rene Angelil, died from just two days earlier. Awful. Daniel was also suffering from brain and throat cancer. He passed away in his native Montreal. RIP.

Daniel Dion, 59, died on Saturday, January 16 in Montreal, Canada from a devastating combination of throat, tongue and brain cancer, Celine Dion‘s publicist, Francine Chaloult, confirmed. His tragic death comes as another blow to his little sister, 47, who has already had a very devastating 2016. First her husband, Rene Angelil, 73, died after a long battle with cancer, and now her beloved older brother has met the same fate. May he rest in peace.

Daniel passed away in the early hours of the morning of January 16, with his 89-year-old mother Thérèse et Adhémar Dion and other family members at his bedside; Daniel has 13 siblings, including Celine. On Friday, January 15, an insider told WorldLive Happeninz Exclusively that Daniel could die “at any moment.” At that point he had already lived well past the doctor’s expectations.

His funeral will take place at St-Simon-et-Jude de Charlemagne church in Repentigny, Quebec. A date has yet to be announced. Daniel leaves behind three children: Vaine, Guillaume and Marie-Michele Dion. His wife, Ghyslaine Bujold, died of cancer in 2015, also at the age of 59.

The second full week of January 2016 has been unfathomably hard for Celine, who has now lost two of the most important people in her life, just in the span of days. In the wake of these two tragedies, Celine has had no choice but to cancel her Las Vegas shows over the January 16 weekend. We cannot imagine what she’s going through.

WLHBloggers, our thoughts remain with Daniel’s friends and family, including Celine, during this very difficult time.
